Day 1: Teaching from Home is HARD

Survived Day 1 and there were a lot of takeaways...

1. My dog is attention seeking and he will absolutely bark only when I am on a video call or teaching a live lesson... oh yeah, he also will take the live lesson as an opportunity to poop in the living room and pee on the floor next to the open door. Such a brat.

2. It is way too easy to work too many hours when your dining room is your "office"/"classroom." I need boundaries and a better schedule.

3. My counter stools were not meant to sit on for 8 hours. I have weird bruises on the  back of my thighs.

4. Remotely troubleshooting a student's computer is wicked hard especially when the problem is they can't hear you.

5. Students will NOT unmute their mics to ask you a question during a recorded lesson and just continue to type their questions in the chat window no matter how many times you ask them to just talk.

6. I am thankful to have so much tech at my fingertips BUT my eyes do not like all the screen time I am getting. Even when I went to read a paperback book they were unwilling to focus on the words.

7. I am so glad I randomly bought printer paper and ink at Costco a couple of weeks ago.

8. After only one day I am far more lonely than I expected to be. As an introvert I expected to relish this time but not seeing my students and colleagues I miss them.

9. I am not above standing in the open fridge and eating cold roast from the Tupperware as my dinner... then having a roll of Thin Mints from the freezer on the way to the tub.

10. My heart is broken for my students who are seniors. I think they have gotten the rottenest deal of anyone in this school closure. I wish I knew of something to do for them but nothing seems to compare to having your senior season of spring sports, prom, and maybe even graduation.

The quarantine classroom is slowly getting cluttered.
